Charmaine: So how did Rock and roll get its name? It started in Cleveland, Ohio. A disc jockey was introduced to black music and was really intrigued with the beat and the fresh style.

Agnes: He named this style ‘rock and roll’. This DJ’s name was Alan Freed.

Charmaine: In the 1950’s there were a new breed of humans- Teenagers! Girls used to copy their mother’s actions and clothing before the war, but after the war the children wanted to be different and separated from the grown-ups.

Agnes: Listening to Rock and roll did help. The parents Disapproved of Rock and roll, since the lyrics were mostly talking about money, dying….etc. In the 1950’s the teenagers had a lot more time and cash to do what they want.
